Issues to be Addressed

  • Safety, access, and connectivity concerns regarding existing and planned bike lanes on Houghton and Irvington.
  • Incorporation of appropriate walking/bike trails into Houghton Corridor development plans.
  • Connectivity of Civano trails to other proposed trail systems, especially along Pantano Wash.
  • Planning and advocacy for additional recreational and open-space parks in the southeast region, especially regarding the proposed Houghton-Irvington Regional Park.

General Approaches

  • Make personal contact with all relevant governmental organizations and specific staff who have responsibilities related to bike, trails, parks, and open space issues affecting the southeast region. Ensure that Civano Neighbors is included on contact lists for distribution of official information regarding relevant planning processes.
  • Network with other individuals and organizations advocating for parks, trails, and open space and explore opportunities for developing coordinated and complimentary strategies.
  • Seek input from members of Civano Neighbors regarding their specific interests and concerns about trails, parks, and open space.
  • Develop user-friendly maps of local walking, hiking, and biking trails and routes.
  • Track all relevant planning, funding, and decision-making processes affecting trails, parks, and open space issues. Alert the Civano Neighbors’ Leadership Team when opportunities are suitable for intervention or participation. Provide regular status reports to the Leadership Team and the membership of Civano Neighbors. Draft letters to relevant government officials on policy statements regarding trails, parks, and open space issues for consideration by the Civano Neighbors Leadership Team.
  • Work with relevant planning officials in providing specific advice and recommendations from Civano Neighbors regarding trails, parks, and open space issues.

Action Plan

To be developed at organizational meeting of Working Group.
