Houghton Corridor Working Group Strategic Plan

Purpose

The purpose of the Houghton Corridor Working Group is to address traffic, access, development, mass transit, signage, road width and condition, and other issues along the Houghton Road corridor.

Issues to be Addressed

• Development along the Houghton Corridor
  • Commercial, residential, and other development along the Houghton Corridor, including permitting and zoning
• Houghton Road
  • Intersections, stoplights, and traffic safety
  • Width, traffic, and impact of roadway on Civano (now and into the future)
• Mass transit access at Civano
• Business and related signage along Houghton Road
  • Houghton Road "Scenic Corridor" Status
  • Business signs, billboards, etc.
     

General Approaches

• Make personal contact with all relevant governmental organizations and specific staff who have responsibilities related to the Houghton Corridor. Ensure that Civano Neighbors is included on contact lists for distribution of official information regarding relevant planning processes.
• Network with other individuals and organizations advocating for sound development and traffic planning along Houghton Road.
• Network with other individuals and organizations advocating for mass transit in southeast Tucson and along Houghton Road, including access from Civano.
• Seek input from members of Civano Neighbors regarding their specific interests and concerns about the Houghton Corridor.
• Track all relevant planning, funding, and decision-making processes affecting traffic, development, and related Houghton Corridor issues. Alert the Civano Neighbors Leadership Team when opportunities are suitable for intervention or participation. Provide regular status reports to the Leadership Team and the membership of Civano Neighbors. Draft letters to relevant government officials on policy statements regarding development, traffic, and the like for consideration by the Civano Neighbors Leadership Team.
• Work with relevant planning officials in providing specific advice and recommendations from Civano Neighbors regarding the Houghton Corridor.
   

Action Plan

• Participate as official member of Southeast Planning and Coordinating Committee.
• Participate as official member of Houghton Corridor Master Plan Citizen Advisory Committee.
