Civano Community School

Civano Community School is a K-5 charter school, sponsored by the Vail School District. Civano Community School's focus is the individual child, with a great emphasis on community. The school is open to anyone—you do not need to be within the Vail boundaries to attend.

Mission

The mission of Civano Community School is to provide an exemplary child-initiated approach to learning. This approach is based on the understanding that:

  • Each child is uniquely gifted
  • Each child learns and develops in unique ways
  • Children construct their own knowledge
  • Learning is a natural, ongoing, social process
  • Learning is motivated by a child's interest
  • Learning involves wondering, dreaming, playing, exploring, creating, communicating, questioning, interacting, and risk-taking.

Civano Community School operates on a modified year-round schedule. The school year typically begins in mid-July and continues through May. Students have breaks in September/October, December, March, and then a summer break in June/July.There is no fee for attending the school, as it is funded by the state of Arizona.
